Corydon, Indiana Welcomes the 2026 NSS Convention

This summer, Corydon, Indiana is set to become the epicenter of the caving world as the 2026 National Speleological Society (NSS) Convention comes to town from July 6–10, 2026 — and Indiana Caverns Family Adventure Park couldn’t be more thrilled to be right in the heart of it all.

The NSS Convention — themed “Hundreds of Caves, Hundreds of Miles” — is an annual gathering of cavers, explorers, scientists, conservationists, and outdoor enthusiasts from across the globe. It’s one of the most anticipated events on the speleological calendar, and this year’s edition promises workshops, field trips, skill-building sessions, and unforgettable cave exploration experiences right here in southern Indiana.

What to Expect at the 2026 NSS Convention

Although the full detailed schedule will be released as the event draws nearer, the convention already offers a compelling lineup that blends education, field experiences, and community engagement:

Caving Field Trips & Local Exploration

Convention attendees will have the chance to experience the geological wonders of the region through expertly guided field trips. One notable excursion kicks off on July 5, before the official convention dates, with a full-day geology tour exploring the karst landscape around Corydon, the Falls of the Ohio State Park, and even a visit inside Wyandotte Cave — one of the most geologically fascinating caves in the state.

These trips celebrate the natural beauty and scientific importance of local cave systems, making them a must-do for participants and an exciting opportunity for local visitors to learn more about Indiana’s unique subterranean environment.

Workshops & Learning Opportunities

The NSS Convention isn’t just about exploring caves — it’s about advancing the skills and knowledge that make safe and responsible caving possible. Attendees can choose from a variety of workshops, such as:

  • Vertical caving techniques
  • Speleology (the science of caves)
  • Cave photography and documentation
  • Skill-building sessions, such as self-rescue techniques

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced caver, these workshops offer valuable hands-on experience and expert instruction.

Junior Speleological Society (JSS) Activities

Families and younger explorers haven’t been forgotten either! The Junior Speleological Society activities will be running throughout the week, giving young adventurers ages 7–17 the chance to explore caves and learn about geology and conservation in a fun, educational environment. Adult volunteers are encouraged to participate and assist, making this a true multigenerational event.

Stay & Explore While You’re Here

The convention hub will be centered around the Harrison County Fairgrounds, which offers on-site camping as well as nearby hotel accommodations for attendees and visitors. It’s a great opportunity to make a full weekend out of your visit — stay close to the action and enjoy all that this historic region has to offer.

Historic downtown Corydon, just a short walk from the fairgrounds, provides a charming backdrop for post-event meals, local shopping, and more exploration. While you’re in the area, don’t miss the chance to plan a visit to Indiana Caverns Family Adventure Park to experience our underground boat ride and guided tours — perfect for cavers of all ages and skill levels.
